Today we made Pop up Puppets. There was no set way to make these. I told the children that they could make any animal or person they liked. Typically my boys made Mine craft figures. Mine craft seems to be flowing in to all areas of their play these days.
Little "R" and "L" made Princesses. Little "L" in particular is Princess mad!

We set up the Puppet theatre on the playroom table and the children all took it in turns to tell their stories and when they were not telling their stories, they were sat on chairs in front, watching the others deliver their show!

Kenzie wrote the times and titles of the shows on the chalk boards. The younger children copied him and made marks of their own before performing their shows.

Little "L" told her story with a very clear voice and clear idea of what her story was going to be about
"Once upon a time, there was a lovely Princess!"

Little "L" joined in.
"Her name was Princess!"

Little "R" introduced a wicked witch to the story and Little "L" told us about the Fairies!

Both the girls became totally involved and engaged in their story telling. They were so keen to take part in the story telling and putting on their show for everyone. Little "L" made clear links with her knowledge of stories and their structure. Using common phrases like "Once upon a time". Little "R" added characters that she has linked in her memory from past fairy tails. No Princess story is complete without a wicked Witch! Both the girls used their imaginations to create a story to share with their friends.

Today's play, meets the following EYFS Prime and specific areas
  • Communication and Language
  • Personal, Social and Emotional
  • Expressive Art and Design
  • Literacy

Today was a bit drier than yesterday but everyone fancied a lazy day so we stayed home and enjoyed the garden and crafting.
Brendan and Little "E" made some clay insects using a mould. They were meant to take 2 hours to dry but these are still not dry 12 hours later so we will probably paint them next week.

Kenzie and "N" went out in to the garden and made Tea. They used some old Tea bags that I have had saved as emergency tea (just in case I should ever run out) but after about 18 months, still have not used.
The rain didn't seem to put them off at all and they both seemed to have a good time emptying tea leaves in to water and watching the water change colour!

We had more Royal Tea Parties this morning.

There was a little bit of foil engraving going on.

Kane joined us for story time. "A" read "the Royal nappy" to him.

We made paper plate Prince George's. I was only going to do the baby faces but little "E" decided to go for a whole baby!

We enjoyed the Hama beads again. It is nice to see these getting so much use now. They have been hidden in the back of a cupboard for so long.

The older girls made some candles.

Brendan and Little "E" had a game of  Yu-gi-oh which "E" won!

I stuck up our Royal babies so that the children could see them all together and chat about them.

We enjoyed some mid afternoon reading.

We played "pass the pigs".

Tomorrow is meant to be a lovely hot one again. I think we will take a walk to the park and see what birds and animals we can find.

Today has been rather soggy out with lots of heavy down falls.
We started off the morning with some cuddles!

We also build some towers and watched them tumble over!

We made book marks. The sewing was a good task for encouraging concentration and fine motor skills.

We talked about the Royal baby and chose toys on a print out that we thought the baby might like to play with.

Several of the children made pens for animals to live in and talked about the different habitats.

Some of us decorated window sun catchers.

Brendan made a Dragon mask!

Little "L" played with the Mr Potato heads and made several designs.

Little "R" worked on decorating a bag with foam letters and shapes.

Brendan made a sun catcher as well.

We had a lot of fun making puppets as well.  Little "E" decorated his blue and red. He talked about long hair and how he didn't want his to have long hair or it would be a girl. This led on to a chat about how not all boys have short hair and that some girls have short hair!

Kenzie and Little "E" asked to put on a puppet show for us all. They used their new puppets and Kenzie wrote on the chalk board to tell us when the showings would be on.

Brendan put on a Minecraft puppet show using his new poster as a backdrop.

Then the girls put on their show about Princesses!

Brendan, Kenzie and Little "E" made snakes.

Brendan and Kenzie went to the garden to cut Rhubarb for us and set about making an apple and rhubarb crumble. It was very yummy!

Kenzie and Little "E" found my new Ocean sea creatures and took them to the Sea table. We had a lovely little story being acted out.

Some of the children set up a Royal Tea Party in honour of Baby George the bottle baby!

We had lots of reading.

We made our own fish tanks!

It amazes me how much we can pack in to a day!
